Assessment
50-minute paper worth 100 points, built from 8 大問 — an opening 小問集合 followed by two 大問 each from physics, chemistry, biology and earth science — with about 40 小問 in 令和8年度, including calculation items, graph and model work, and short written explanations. The five academic-test subjects together total 500 points, sat on 4 March 2026, science 15:20–16:10.
Time Limit
50 minutes (the academic test 本検査 is sat on 4 March 2026, with 追検査 on 9 March; results announced 12 March 2026)
Passing Score
No fixed pass mark. Admission is decided by each school from the 500-point five-subject academic test, the report card (調査書, 135 points = 9教科×5×3年), and any school-set examination, using one of the five 調査書:学力検査 weightings allowed by the 令和8年度 実施要項 — 7:3, 6:4, 5:5, 4:6 or 3:7 — both converted to a 1000-point scale then compressed. Some schools and departments also apply 傾斜配点, doubling the weighting of one or more designated subjects so the five-subject maximum rises above 500 points.

Aqueous solution and ion problems (水溶液・イオン) — such as mass-percent concentration and electrolysis — and snow-climate and seismic earth-science problems (雪・地震) are recurring Niigata tendencies, reflecting Niigata's Sea-of-Japan snow climate and seismic activity.
How is the 令和8年度 selection structured?
The 令和8年度 (2026) cycle uses 特色化選抜 plus 一般選抜 (学力検査 with optional 学校独自検査), with 欠員補充のための2次募集 and 海外帰国生徒等特別選抜. 特色化選抜 is abolished after 2026 and replaced by 学校設定枠 from 2027.
When were the 2026 papers sat and results announced?
The 令和8年度 本検査 academic test (学力検査) was held on 4 March 2026 (science 15:20–16:10), with 追検査 on 9 March and results announced on 12 March 2026. The five-subject science average was 46.4 out of 100.
How much is the examination fee?
The 入学考査料 is 2,200 yen for a full-time (全日制) course and 950 yen for part-time (定時制). A separate 入学料 of 5,650 yen (full-time) or 2,100 yen (part-time) is due at enrolment after passing.
How is the report card weighted against the academic test?
The report card (調査書) is scored up to 135 points (9教科×5×3年). Each school chooses one of the five 調査書:学力検査 weightings allowed by the 実施要項 — 7:3, 6:4, 5:5, 4:6 or 3:7 — and both figures are converted to a 1000-point scale then compressed, so the exact weight of science varies by school.
Is this question bank the same as the real exam?
No. The official paper is written in Japanese with experimental reasoning and short written explanations. This bank is an English-language multiple-choice study adaptation of the same syllabus content and cannot replace experimental or practical science learning.
