1A sales team writes a monthly activity plan, carries it out, compares results with the plan, and revises next month's actions. Which management cycle is being applied?
A.PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act), which repeats planning, execution, evaluation, and improvement
B.The Balanced Scorecard, which evaluates strategy from four performance perspectives
C.OODA loop (Observe-Orient-Decide-Act), which starts from real-time observation rather than a documented plan
D.The waterfall model, which completes each development phase before the next begins
Explanation: PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) is the basic management cycle used to run and improve ordinary business activity: plan, execute, check results against the plan, then act to improve. The scenario describes that closed loop. OODA is a faster observe-and-decide loop, waterfall is a sequential development model, and the Balanced Scorecard is a strategy-measurement framework rather than a monthly operations cycle.
2In Japanese management teaching used on the IT Passport, which set is treated as the four classic management resources (経営資源)?
A.Confidentiality, integrity, availability, and authenticity
B.People, goods, money, and information (ヒト・モノ・カネ・情報)
C.Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
D.Plan, Do, Check, and Act
Explanation: Enterprise activity is managed through four resources: people, goods (physical assets), money, and information. Information is treated as a resource to be governed just as cash and equipment are. The other lists are the CIA-plus security attributes, SWOT factors, and the PDCA steps, not the four resources.
3An engineer reports both to a functional manager in the development department and to a project manager for a time-boxed product launch. Which organization form is this?
A.A divisional (business-unit) organization grouped only by product or region
B.A holding-company structure in which subsidiaries operate as independent companies
C.A matrix organization in which a person belongs to both a functional unit and a project
D.A hierarchical (pyramid) organization in which each person has a single vertical reporting line
Explanation: A matrix organization (マトリックス組織) assigns people to a standing function and to a cross-functional project at the same time, so dual reporting is expected. Hierarchical organizations use one boss, divisional structures group by product or region without that dual line, and a holding company is a legal ownership form rather than a reporting grid.
4Which practice is Socially Responsible Investment (SRI: 社会的責任投資)?
A.Measuring greenhouse-gas emissions associated with a product across its life cycle
B.A listed company disclosing financial statements to shareholders after year-end closing
C.A company publishing a corporate philosophy and a code of conduct for its own employees
D.Selecting or weighting investments using social, environmental, or ethical criteria in addition to financial return
Explanation: SRI is investment behavior: capital is allocated with social, environmental, or ethical screens as well as return. CSR is the company's own social-responsibility activity, a carbon footprint is an emissions metric, and disclosure (ディスクロージャー) is the publication of financial information. The syllabus treats SRI as distinct from CSR.
5After a major earthquake scenario, a manufacturer wants a document that states which operations must continue, who does what, and which alternate sites and suppliers to use. Which artifact is that document?
A.A Business Continuity Plan (BCP: 事業継続計画)
B.Business Continuity Management (BCM) as a whole, which is the ongoing management system rather than one document
C.A Service Level Agreement (SLA) with an IT vendor
D.A Request for Proposal (RFP) sent to disaster-recovery vendors
Explanation: A BCP is the documented plan for continuing prioritized operations through a disruption, covering roles, alternate resources, and recovery steps. BCM is the broader management system that maintains and improves that capability. An SLA sets service targets with a provider, and an RFP asks vendors for proposals; neither is the continuity playbook itself.
6A quality team ranks defect causes from most to least frequent and overlays a cumulative-percentage line so that the vital few causes stand out. Which tool is this?
A.A scatter diagram that plots pairs of numeric variables
B.A Pareto chart (パレート図), used with ABC thinking to focus on the largest contributors
C.A cause-and-effect (fishbone) diagram that classifies possible causes by category
D.A control chart that plots a process metric against control limits over time
Explanation: A Pareto chart orders categories by frequency (or cost) and shows the cumulative share so teams can apply the vital-few idea behind ABC analysis. A fishbone diagram structures hypothesized causes, a control chart watches process stability, and a scatter diagram shows association between two variables.
7City data show that monthly ice-cream sales and the number of drowning incidents rise and fall together. A later check shows both increase in hotter months. Which interpretation is most appropriate?
A.Ice-cream consumption is a direct cause of drowning
B.The two series have a negative correlation
C.The association is a spurious correlation (擬似相関) driven by a lurking factor such as temperature
D.The two series are uncorrelated because a third variable exists
Explanation: A spurious correlation is a statistical association that is not a causal link; a third factor (here, summer heat) can move both series. Correlation still exists; it is simply not causation. Negative correlation would mean one series falls as the other rises, which the data do not show.
8A shop's monthly fixed costs are 600,000 yen. One product sells for 400 yen and has a variable cost of 250 yen per unit. How many units must be sold in a month to break even (損益分岐点)?
A.6,000 units
B.1,500 units
C.2,400 units
D.4,000 units
Explanation: Break-even volume is fixed cost divided by contribution per unit. Contribution is selling price minus variable cost: 400 minus 250 equals 150 yen. Then 600,000 divided by 150 equals 4,000 units. At that volume, total contribution exactly covers fixed cost and operating profit is zero.
9Equipment is purchased for 2,600,000 yen, residual (salvage) value is 200,000 yen, and useful life is 4 years. Using straight-line depreciation with no extra first-year convention, what is the depreciation expense for one year?
A.600,000 yen
B.650,000 yen
C.2,400,000 yen
D.200,000 yen
Explanation: Straight-line depreciation spreads depreciable amount evenly over useful life. Depreciable amount is acquisition cost minus residual value: 2,600,000 minus 200,000 equals 2,400,000 yen. Divided by 4 years, annual expense is 600,000 yen. Residual value is not itself the yearly charge.
10Under Japan's consumption-tax rules that began on 1 October 2023, which statement about the qualified invoice system (適格請求書等保存方式, the Invoice System) is correct?
A.Any handwritten receipt can support input tax credit even if the seller is not a registered qualified invoice issuer
B.It is a multiple-rate input-credit method in which, in principle, a qualified invoice from a registered issuer plus books must be kept
C.Only paper invoices are valid; electronic qualified invoices are not permitted
D.Exempt businesses are automatically registered as qualified invoice issuers without applying to the tax office
Explanation: The National Tax Agency describes the Invoice System as the input-tax-credit method for multiple consumption-tax rates. In principle the buyer keeps books and a qualified invoice issued by a business registered with the tax office. Registration is not automatic for tax-exempt businesses, and electronic qualified invoices are allowed.

Information Technology Passport Examination: Suggested Study Strategy

1Treat this English bank as knowledge practice; the official iパス sitting is Japanese CBT with IRT scoring and unpublished live items.
2Cover all three fields. A high composite still fails if any field score is below 300 of 1,000.
3Study the 2026 syllabus change that removes 下請法 and adds 中小受託取引適正化法.
4Work calculation items such as break-even, depreciation, binary conversion, and simple network addressing; Technology and Strategy papers include quantitative reasoning.
5Use IPA's published syllabus Ver.6.5 and the iパス released questions for format familiarity.
