The CNVVF 400-post vigile del fuoco competition was announced on 2 July 2026 and closed to applications on 3 August 2026. The bando fixes the four preselective subject types — Italian history from 1861, elements of chemistry and physics, logical-deductive and analytical reasoning, and IT plus English — but leaves the item count, duration and marking to a separate notice published on 28 September 2026. Candidates ranked within ten times the posts go on to three motor-aptitude tests, each passed at 21/30. Participation is free of charge. This independent English-language bank offers 100 practice MCQs across those four subject areas with teaching explanations.

1Two atoms are isotopes of the same chemical element. Which statement correctly describes how their nuclei differ?
2According to Boyle's Law, what happens to the pressure of an ideal gas in an enclosed rigid container if its volume is halved while the temperature remains strictly constant?
3A closed, unvented compartment at atmospheric pressure contains trapped air that is heated from 27 °C to 327 °C by an adjacent fire. Applying Gay-Lussac's Law, what is the resulting absolute pressure inside the enclosure?
4Under Charles's Law, how does the volume of an ideal gas behave when its absolute temperature is raised while external pressure is maintained constant?
5Which mechanism of heat transfer is governed by Fourier's Law and represents the primary pathway through which heat propagates through a structural steel beam during a building fire?
6During an indoor compartment fire, hot smoke and toxic gases rise toward the ceiling and spread horizontally across the ceiling surface. Which heat transfer and fluid transport phenomenon primarily drives this flow?
7According to the Stefan-Boltzmann Law, how does the radiant heat emitted by a blackbody flame change if its absolute temperature increases from 800 K to 1,600 K?
8In the modern periodic table, what property do all the elements in the same group (vertical column) share, and what does that imply about their chemistry?
9Sodium chloride (NaCl) dissolves readily in water and conducts electricity when molten, whereas methane (CH4) is a gas that does not conduct. Which difference in chemical bonding explains this?
10A sealed cylinder contains 88 g of carbon dioxide (CO2), whose molar mass is 44 g/mol. How many moles of gas does the cylinder hold, and approximately how many molecules does that correspond to?
About the Concorso Vigile del Fuoco Exam
The Concorso pubblico, per titoli ed esami, a 400 posti nella qualifica di vigile del fuoco (decreto dipartimentale n. 2488 del 2 luglio 2026) governs entry into the operational ranks of the Italian National Fire Corps. Article 7 of the bando subjects the examinations to a preselective multiple-choice test covering four subject types: Italian history from 1861 to the present; elements of chemistry and physics; logical-deductive and analytical reasoning; and the use of common IT equipment and applications together with the English language. Candidates who rank within ten times the 400 posts then face three motor-aptitude tests and the assessment of qualifications. This is independent practice by OpenExamPrep for the topics named in the bando: 100 English-language study questions, not a simulation of the official paper, whose item count, duration and marking the Department published only in its notice of 28 September 2026.
Exam sponsor: Ministero dell'Interno — Dipartimento dei Vigili del Fuoco, del Soccorso Pubblico e della Difesa Civile. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.
Assessment
Article 7 of the bando makes the examination subject to a preselective multiple-choice test on four subject types, presented grouped and in this order: Italian history from 1861 to the present; elements of chemistry and physics; logical-deductive and analytical items probing reasoning ability; and items on the use of the most widespread IT equipment and applications and on the English language. Marking is automated, the score does not count towards the final merit mark, and candidates ranked within ten times the 400 posts are admitted to the examinations proper. Those consist of three motor-aptitude tests under Annex A — balance, strength, coordination and motor reaction (three modules: high beam traverse, pull-ups, press-ups with bar contact); endurance; and swimming ability — each passed with at least 21/30, followed by the assessment of qualifications under Annex B.
Time Limit
Not published: the duration of the preselective test is set by the ministerial notice of 28 September 2026.
Passing Score
Competitive ranking threshold: admission goes to the candidates ranked within ten times the posts advertised, and the preselection score does not contribute to the final merit mark.
Fees, eligibility, and exam policies can change. Confirm them with the exam sponsor before applying or paying.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the bando say about the structure of the preselective test?
Article 7 of decreto dipartimentale n. 2488 of 2 July 2026 states only that the preselective test consists of multiple-choice items on four subject types, grouped and ordered as: Italian history from 1861 to the present; elements of chemistry and physics; logical-deductive and analytical reasoning; and the use of the most widespread IT equipment and applications together with English. Marking is automated and the score does not count towards the final merit mark.
How many questions are in the official preselective test and how long does it last?
The bando does not say. Article 6 deferred the modalities of the preselective test to a separate notice; the Department's notice of 15 September 2026 confirmed that the information would be published on 28 September 2026. Treat any item count, duration or marking scheme circulated before that notice as unverified.
What are the age and educational requirements for the CNVVF firefighter competition?
Article 2 of the bando requires Italian citizenship, enjoyment of political rights, and not having turned 26 by the application deadline. That limit rises by the length of military service actually performed, up to three years, and is set at 37 for Corps volunteers enrolled in the registers for at least one year. Candidates need an upper secondary school diploma, which may be obtained by the date of the preselective test, plus the psycho-physical and aptitude requirements of D.M. 166/2019.
What phases follow the preselective test?
Article 8 and Annex A set three motor-aptitude tests: Test 1 on balance, strength, coordination and motor reaction, made up of three modules (high beam traverse in 3 minutes, full pull-ups in 1 minute, press-ups with bar contact in 1 minute); Test 2 on endurance; and Test 3 on swimming ability. Each test, and each module of Test 1, must score at least 21/30. Qualifications are then assessed under Annex B, worth up to 5 points.
Why is this practice bank in English when the competition is held in Italian?
The competition is conducted entirely in Italian. This bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation by OpenExamPrep, written so that candidates preparing in English can drill the subject matter named in the bando while the Italian names of institutions, laws and historical events are preserved. It is not an official translation and does not reproduce the official paper's format.
