About the Iran Motorcycle Driving Theory Exam
The motorcycle driving licence (گواهینامه موتورسیکلت) is issued by the Iranian Traffic Police under the Executive Regulations of the Council of Ministers (آییننامه صدور انواع گواهینامههای رانندگی مصوب هیئت وزیران، ماده ۲). Since the amendment in force from Dey 1403 it is issued in four groups — الف-م, الف-۱, الف-۲ and الف — graded by engine capacity and power, each with its own minimum age, covering two-wheeled motorcycles, mopeds and three-wheeled motor vehicles on public roads. The theoretical assessment tests rider-specific road safety, countersteering dynamics, front and rear braking balance, certified protective helmet standards, pre-ride mechanical inspection, lane positioning, and legal prohibitions against riding in pedestrian zones or bus rapid transit (BRT) lanes. This practice bank is an independent English-language multiple-choice study adaptation by OpenExamPrep; the official test is conducted in Persian (Farsi), and this bank is not an official translation or simulator.

Iran Motorcycle Driving Theory: Suggested Study Strategy
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum age to obtain a standard motorcycle licence in Iran?
It depends on the licence group. Since the amendment that took effect in Dey 1403, Iran's motorcycle licence is split into four groups: الف-م (up to 50 cc petrol or 4 kW electric, limited to 45 km/h) and الف-۱ (up to 125 cc and 11 kW) open at 16 years completed; الف-۲ (up to 35 kW) requires 18; and the unrestricted group الف requires 21 and two years' experience on an الف-۲ licence. Under-18 applicants must produce notarised parental or guardian consent.
What is the format and passing score for the motorcycle theory exam in Iran?
The official computerized theory exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions completed in 20 minutes. Candidates must answer at least 26 questions correctly (86.7%, maximum 4 errors) to pass.
What is countersteering and at what speeds is it used on a motorcycle?
Countersteering (push-steering) is the physical technique used to initiate a turn at speeds above approximately 15–20 km/h: gently pushing forward on the right handlebar causes the front wheel to momentarily track left, creating an immediate roll and lean of the motorcycle into the right-hand corner.
What is the proper front and rear braking distribution on a motorcycle?
On dry, clean asphalt, approximately 70% of a motorcycle's total stopping power is provided by the front brake due to forward dynamic weight transfer, while the rear brake provides the remaining 30%. Both brakes should be applied simultaneously and progressively.
What are the helmet and passenger requirements under Iranian motorcycle laws?
Under the Traffic Violations Penalties Law and Highway Code, wearing a certified, securely fastened protective helmet is mandatory for both the rider and any passenger. Transporting passengers is prohibited unless the motorcycle is equipped with a dedicated passenger seat, secure footrests, and grab handles.
What riding maneuvers are strictly prohibited for motorcyclists in Iran?
Iranian traffic regulations strictly prohibit riding on pedestrian sidewalks (پیادهروها), entering dedicated bus rapid transit (BRT) lanes, weaving dangerously through moving traffic lanes (لاییکشی), riding against traffic flow, performing stunt maneuvers such as wheelies, and carrying oversized commercial loads.
In which language is the official motorcycle test conducted?
The official computerized theory test administered by Rahvar Faraja is in Persian (Farsi). This practice bank is an independent English-language multiple-choice study adaptation by OpenExamPrep.
