The UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design) has a dynamic qualifying cutoff for Part A (typically around 60 marks out of 200). Only candidates qualifying Part A have their Part B (drawing/design) sheet evaluated. The exam registration fee is ₹4,000 for male General/OBC candidates, and ₹2,000 for female, SC, ST, and PwD candidates. For 2026, admission is open to candidates born after October 1, 2001, who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, yielding access to a total of roughly 225 highly coveted B.Des seats across the IITs.

1A standard cardboard box in the shape of a cube is unfolded. Which of the following flat layouts CANNOT be folded back to form a closed cube without any overlapping faces?
2How many distinct flat rectangular surfaces are there in a standard right-angled pentagonal prism?
3A solid wooden cone is cut by a plane parallel to its base. What is the geometric name of the shape of the cross-section obtained?
4Imagine a solid cylinder of radius R and height H standing vertically on a flat surface. A solid sphere of radius R is placed directly on top of the cylinder so that their centers align vertically. How many surfaces of the sphere and cylinder remain visible/exposed to the air?
5A square sheet of paper is folded diagonally to form a triangle. It is folded in half again to form a smaller triangle. A circular hole is punched straight through the corner vertex that represents the center of the original square sheet. When the paper is completely unfolded, how many circular holes will appear on the sheet?
6If a square sheet of paper is folded diagonally to form a triangle, then folded in half again, and a circular hole is punched near the outer open edge (not at the folded vertices), how many holes will appear when unfolded?
7If a square sheet of paper is folded diagonally once, and then folded in half along its line of symmetry, a hole is punched exactly on the crease of the second fold (away from the center vertex). How many holes appear when unfolded?
8A transparent glass cube has all its edges painted black. If you project its shadow onto a wall using a single point light source, which of the following shapes CANNOT be formed by the shadow?
9How many surfaces does a standard torus (donut shape) have?
10A right regular hexagonal pyramid has its top portion sliced off by a plane parallel to the base. What is the name of the remaining bottom solid?

UCEED Study Tips from Top Performers
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the qualifying cutoff score for UCEED Part A?
There is no fixed qualifying score. The cutoff for UCEED Part A is calculated dynamically based on the performance of all candidates. It is typically determined as mean (μ) minus standard deviation (σ), which usually ranges between 50 and 70 marks out of 200. Only candidates who score above this cutoff will have their Part B evaluated.
How is the final UCEED rank calculated?
The final merit rank is determined by the total score obtained by combining the marks of Part A (200 marks) and Part B (100 marks), for a total of 300 marks. If a candidate does not qualify in Part A, their Part B score is not evaluated, and they are not assigned a merit rank.
Can Arts or Commerce students write UCEED?
Yes, absolutely. UCEED is open to candidates from all streams including Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities. Any candidate who has passed Class 12 or equivalent in the current or preceding year is eligible to write the exam.
What is the exam pattern of UCEED Part A?
Part A is a computer-based test of 2 hours, worth 200 marks. It features 3 sections: Section 1 has Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions (no choices, keyboard entry); Section 2 has Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) (one or more correct options, partial marking); Section 3 has standard Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) (exactly one correct option with negative marks).
How many times can I attempt UCEED?
A candidate can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times, and these attempts must be in consecutive years. For example, if you attempt UCEED for the first time in 2025, your second and final attempt must be in 2026.
What B.Des seats are available through UCEED?
UCEED scores are used for B.Des admissions at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur, which offer a combined total of around 225 seats. Additionally, several private and public universities (like CEPT University, RV University, etc.) accept UCEED scores for their design programs.
