About the Hungarian Civil Law Notary Exam Exam
The Közjegyzői vizsga is Hungary's specialist examination used in civil-law notary appointment and specified transfer decisions under Act XLI of 1991 (Kjtv.) and Decree 5/2018. (II. 13.) IM rendelet. MOKK administers the electronic examination for applicants with at least two years of qualifying practice. What is the purpose of the Hungarian Közjegyzői vizsga?
Under Section 17(1)(g) of Act XLI of 1991 on Civil Law Notaries (Kjtv.), passing the Közjegyzői vizsga is a mandatory statutory prerequisite to be appointed to a civil law notary office (közjegyzői állás) by the Minister of Justice.
Who is eligible to sit for the Közjegyzői vizsga?
Under Decree 5/2018. (II. 13.) IM rendelet, an applicant must prove at least 2 years of combined qualifying practice as a deputy notary or in a position recognized by Section 17(2) of the Notaries Act and pay the examination fee. The decree does not limit eligibility to uninterrupted deputy-notary service.
