About the BTS PI Exam
The Brevet de Technicien Supérieur Professions Immobilières (BTS PI) is a two-year French national higher-education vocational diploma (Bac+2, Level 5 RNCP, 120 ECTS) for real estate transaction, letting, property administration, co-ownership, social housing, building advice, and client relations. The reformed framework created by the Arrêté du 22 novembre 2023 applies from the 2026 session and combines written, oral, CCF, workplace, and dossier-based assessment across eight compulsory units. The diploma can satisfy the educational professional-aptitude route for the relevant Carte Professionnelle, but a graduate must still meet the separate morality, insurance, guarantee, and application conditions administered by a CCI. OpenExamPrep provides an English-language MCQ study adaptation; it is not an official translation, format simulation, or substitute for the required writing, B2 English, workplace experience, dossier, and oral performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the BTS Professions Immobilières (BTS PI)?
The BTS Professions Immobilières (BTS PI) is a French national state diploma (Bac+2, Level 5 RNCP, 120 ECTS) governed by the French education ministry. It trains professionals in real estate sales, rental management, property administration, and co-ownership syndicate management and is one recognized route toward the professional aptitude required for certain real-estate cards.
How does the BTS PI relate to professional real-estate cards under the Loi Hoguet?
The BTS Professions Immobilières is an accepted educational route for professional aptitude under the Loi Hoguet framework. It does not by itself issue a card: an applicant must also satisfy the separate morality, professional-liability insurance, financial-guarantee or non-handling declaration, and CCI application requirements for the requested activities.
How is the reformed 2026 BTS PI examination structured?
Under the Arrêté du 22 novembre 2023 as amended in 2025, the 2026 framework has eight compulsory units and 30 coefficients: U1 culture générale (4); U2 English written (2); U3 English oral (2); U4 legal/economic environment (4); U5 sale/letting client project (6); U6 co-ownership/social housing (6); U7 climate-aware building management (3); and U8 professional practice (3).
What passing score is required to graduate from the BTS PI?
Candidates are admitted with a weighted overall average of at least 10/20. Current BTS rules also provide a control-exam route for eligible candidates whose initial overall average is at least 8/20 and whose professional-unit average is at least 10/20.
What is the legal difference between a compromis de vente and a promesse unilatérale de vente?
A promesse unilatérale de vente (PUV) binds the vendor to sell during the option period while the prospective purchaser may choose whether to exercise the option. A compromis de vente (promesse synallagmatique) creates reciprocal commitments to sell and buy, subject to the agreed conditions and applicable purchaser protections. Each form has distinct drafting and formality consequences.
What are the rules governing the statutory 10-day SRU withdrawal period?
Under Article L. 271-1 of the Code de la construction et de l'habitation, a non-professional purchaser within the rule's residential scope has a 10-day cooling-off period. It runs from the day after first presentation of compliant notification, or from the day after qualifying direct delivery documented under the prescribed conditions.
What voting majority is required for common works in an Assemblée Générale de copropriété?
Under the Loi du 10 juillet 1965, the applicable majority depends on the proposed decision. Routine administration commonly uses Article 24; appointments and specified authorizations use Article 25, with a possible Article 25-1 second vote; structural dispositions and listed major decisions use Article 26; and changes to the building's destination require unanimity.
What is the rental exclusion timetable for energy-inefficient housing in France?
For metropolitan residential leases, class G fails the energy-decency criterion for leases signed, renewed, or tacitly renewed from 2025; class F follows in 2028 and class E in 2034. Overseas dates and statutory exceptions must be checked separately, and rent-increase restrictions for F and G dwellings are a distinct rule.
