Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Egypt CAOA Assistant Teacher Competition?
It is the centralized electronic recruitment examination organized by the Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA / الجهاز المركزي للتنظيم والإدارة) together with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MOETE) to hire assistant teachers (معلم مساعد) for public schools across Egypt's governorates. It delivers the presidential initiative announced in January 2022 to appoint 30,000 teachers a year for five years, a total of 150,000.
Where is the CAOA teacher exam administered and what is its format?
The examination is delivered electronically on dedicated computer terminals at CAOA's Capability Assessment and Competition Center (مركز تقييم القدرات والمسابقات) in Nasr City, Cairo, and at the regional assessment centres CAOA has since opened in Assiut and the New Valley. Marking is fully automated with no human intervention. CAOA notifies each candidate of an individual date and venue through the Government Jobs Portal.
What competency components does the exam cover?
CAOA and MOETE describe five components: behavioural competencies (twelve traits such as discipline, critical thinking, perception, and focus); linguistic competencies (Arabic plus one foreign language the candidate declares, such as English, French, or German); technological and cognitive competencies (computer skills plus general knowledge including national projects, the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, and the National Human Rights Strategy); pedagogical competencies (guidance and counselling, mental health, effective teaching, management and supervision); and a subject-specialization test. Neither body publishes mark allocations or weightings for these components.
How many questions are on the exam and what is the pass mark?
Neither figure is published. CAOA assembles each sitting from its own item banks and announces no official question count, mark total, or numeric cut score. It announced a 2.5-hour electronic sitting for the flagship 2022 round, but does not publish a duration for each subsequent round. Candidates who pass are ranked in merit order against the advertised vacancy quota for their governorate.
What is the application fee and registration method?
Registration is conducted exclusively online through the Egyptian Government Job Portal (jobs.caoa.gov.eg) using the national ID number. Recent announcements set the statutory fee at EGP 28, deposited into CAOA's government-jobs revenue account at the National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, or Banque du Caire, with the stamped deposit receipt attached to the application; earlier rounds through 2024 charged EGP 26. Applications must be made in the governorate of residence shown on the national ID card.
What happens after passing the CAOA electronic examination?
Successful examinees are ranked in merit order within their governorate's vacancy quota. Nominated candidates then complete the training prescribed by MOETE and pass a medical examination and narcotics test before being contracted as an Assistant Teacher (معلم مساعد). Conversion to the permanent Teacher grade later requires the Certificate of Validity (شهادة الصلاحية) from the Professional Academy for Teachers under the teachers' cadre framework of Law No. 155 of 2007.
Is this practice question bank an official examination simulation?
No. The official CAOA competition is administered electronically in Arabic at CAOA assessment centres. This question bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation created to help candidates master pedagogical principles, educational psychology, IT fundamentals, language concepts, and civic frameworks. It is not an official translation, is not built from a published CAOA blueprint, and does not replace official Arabic-language preparation.
