Under Articles 71a to 71d of the Swiss Ordinance on Health Insurance (KLV), off-label or unlicensed drug therapies can be reimbursed on a case-by-case basis by compulsory health insurance (OKP) if a major therapeutic benefit is expected for a severe or life-threatening disease with no authorized therapeutic alternative, following evaluation and approval by the insurer's medical officer (Vertrauensarzt).
