About the Cayman DVDL ADI Part 1 Exam
The Cayman Islands DVDL Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Part 1 theory test is the written knowledge examination required before Parts 2 and 3 of the ADI qualification. It has 100 four-option multiple-choice questions in four sections of 25 (A traffic management; B signs, signals and markings; C driving test, Traffic Act, vehicle control and basic mechanical knowledge; D instructional techniques), lasting one hour, with an overall 80% pass mark and sectional thresholds published on the DVDL ADI Information Guide. Syllabus topics include the Road Code, licensing and driving-test procedures, and instructional techniques such as the cockpit drill. Part 1 fee is CI$100.
Assessment
ADI qualification has three parts taken in order, all within a two-year period: Part 1 written theory (100 MCQs, one hour); Part 2 eyesight plus practical driving ability; Part 3 instructional ability. Theory retakes are unlimited; each practical part allows a maximum of three attempts. Application uses form ADI 1 with two character references (people known for at least two years) and the Part 1 fee. Practical examiners are specially trained Royal Cayman Islands Police instructors.
