About the Canada SVOP Exam
The Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) training certificate is Transport Canada’s entry-level domestic credential for operators of small non-pleasure vessels on near coastal class 2 and sheltered waters voyages. On those voyages it lets you operate a vessel up to 5 gross tonnage (except tugs) or master a fishing vessel up to 15 GT or not more than 12 m overall length. The approved course follows TP 14692 and ends with a 50-question multiple-choice exam (70% pass). No marine medical certificate is required for the SVOP itself.
