About the ARCON PPCE Exam

The Professional Practice Competence Examination (PPCE) is the gateway between provisional and full ARCON registration for architects in Nigeria. After accredited academic training and at least two years of documented practical experience, candidates sit the JBAE papers, portfolio and orals, covering Nigerian building law and regulations, contract administration, professional ethics, and office/project/procurement management.

Exam sponsor: Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) / Joint Board of Architectural Education (JBAE). The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Assessment

JBAE administers the PPCE as Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3 and a Portfolio and Orals component, testing professional practice competence for full ARCON registration; computer-based tests were used for the April 2025 exams. Public candidate materials emphasise building laws/contracts/regulations, ethics and professional responsibility, and managing practice, procurement and construction processes. Candidates who fail specific sections may be referred and must resit those sections. This free bank offers 100 multiple-choice knowledge questions mapped to those themes.

Time Limit

Timed CBT duration is set by JBAE for each diet and confirmed in candidate instructions; it is not published as a single permanent figure on the main public pages reviewed.

Passing Score

No fixed public percentage pass mark was verified. Results are published as pass / referred / incomplete lists; confirm current rules with JBAE for your sitting.

Exam / Certification Fees

September 2026 notice: non-refundable ₦25,000 application fee, ₦175,000 examination fee for fresh candidates after pre-qualification (referred candidates ₦75,000 to ₦175,000 depending on the papers retaken) and a ₦30,000 preparatory seminar fee, plus any outstanding NIA associate or ARCON Provisional Stage I/II fees if required.
