How do the FMVA vocabulary games work?
There are 4 games built on 20 FMVA terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.
Where do the FMVA terms come from?
OpenExamPrep researched each term from the CFI (Corporate Finance Institute) content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.
What is the FMVA certification?

It is a comprehensive online program covering financial modeling, valuation, Excel, accounting, budgeting, and forecasting. The program includes 15 core courses and a minimum of 3 elective courses, culminating in a 50-question final exam. It is designed for finance professionals seeking practical, job-ready skills in investment banking, private equity, equity research, FP&A, and corporate finance.
How hard is the FMVA exam?
The FMVA final exam is considered moderately challenging. It consists of 50 randomized multiple-choice questions including Excel modeling case studies, with a 3-hour time limit and 70% passing score. The exam is open-book and online, but requires deep understanding of financial modeling concepts and the ability to apply them quickly. Most candidates who complete the core courses and practice with Excel models find the exam manageable. If you do not pass, you can retake after a 30-day waiting period.
