Frequently Asked Questions

What does the JDF General Knowledge Entrance Test cover?

30 multiple-choice questions across five equally weighted areas: Jamaican history, geography and landmarks, government and civics, culture and proverbs, and knowledge of the JDF itself. Candidates have 45 minutes and must score at least 60% (54 of 90 marks) to pass.

Does JDF entrance testing include math and English?

Yes, but as separate papers. Along with the General Knowledge test, JDF applicants sit Reading, Dictation, English Language, and Mathematics exams pegged to a grade-nine mastery level; CXC/GCE 'O' Level passes in Math and English can exempt candidates from those sections.

Is the JDF entrance exam pass rate published?

No. The JDF does not publish official pass-rate statistics for the General Knowledge test or its other written entrance exams.

What happens if I fail the JDF entrance exam?

Candidates who don't pass can reapply during a later recruitment cycle, typically held annually, rather than waiting a fixed number of days — provided they still meet the age (18-23 for regular force) and fitness eligibility requirements.

Where is the JDF entrance exam held?

Testing is coordinated by the JDF Recruiting Office and may be administered at Up Park Camp in Kingston or at designated recruitment stations across Jamaica.
