5. Bring valid ID to appointment

Exam Tip: The 6-month deadline for fingerprinting after passing the exam is strictly enforced. Miss this deadline and you must retake the exam. Once fingerprinted, you have 60 days to submit your license application.

Step 3: Submit License Application

Application Method: Online through Sircon (National Insurance Producer Registry)

Sircon Application Process:

1. Visit home.sircon.com/app/
2. Create account (if new applicant)
3. Select "Utah" and "Producer License"
4. Complete application form
5. Pay fees: $185 application + $5.60 transaction = $190.60 total

Required Information:

• Personal information (SSN, address, contact)
• Exam passing confirmation
• Fingerprint completion confirmation
• Employment history (past 10 years)
• Criminal history disclosure (if applicable)
• Regulatory action disclosure (if applicable)

Processing Time: Typically 5-10 business days if all requirements are met

Step 4: Receive License

License Issuance:

• Utah Insurance Department reviews application and background check
• If approved, license issued electronically

Step 5: Obtain Company Appointments

Before selling insurance, you must:

Get Appointed by Insurance Companies:

• Insurance company appoints you to represent them
• Company submits appointment through Sircon within 15 days of contract execution
• Appointment fee: $40 per company
• Multiple appointments allowed

Maintain Appointments:

• Appointment ties your license to specific insurers
• You can only sell products for companies that appoint you
• Companies can terminate appointments
• Must maintain at least one active appointment

Exam Tip: Having a producer license does NOT authorize you to sell insurance until you're appointed by an insurance company. License + appointment = ability to transact insurance business. Appointments must be submitted within 15 days of contract execution.

Resident vs. Non-Resident Licensing

Resident Producer

Requirements:

• Utah is your primary residence or place of business
• Complete full licensing process (exam, fingerprinting, application)
• Maintain Utah as primary licensing state

Benefits:

• Can obtain non-resident licenses in other states through reciprocity
• Lower application fees in some reciprocal states

Non-Resident Producer

Requirements:

• Hold active producer license in your home state
• Home state license must be in good standing
• Apply through Sircon as non-resident applicant
• May not need to take Utah exam if home state has reciprocity

Utah Reciprocity:

• Utah has reciprocal agreements with most states
• If your home state doesn't require Utah exam, Utah typically waives exam
• Must still complete background check
• Pay non-resident license fee ($185 + $5.60 = $190.60)

Exam Tip: Reciprocity means if State A waives State B's exam, State B waives State A's exam. Non-residents with active licenses in reciprocal states may skip the Utah exam but must still complete other requirements.
