What's Allowed

• Charge up to $10 per notarial act
• Charge travel fees at federal mileage rate if agreed in advance
• Charge reasonable RON fee by agreement
• Perform notarizations for free (no minimum)
• Accept tips if offered after service

What's NOT Allowed

• Charge more than $10 per standard act
• Require payment before disclosing fees
• Charge based on document value
• Charge per signature (only per notarial act)
• Refuse to provide receipt if requested

Fee Disclosure

You should disclose fees:

1. Before performing the notarial act
2. Clearly stating the per-act fee
3. In writing if requested

Recording Fees in Journal

Your journal entry should include:

• The fee charged (if any) for each notarial act
• "$0" or "No fee" if no charge

Employer-Paid Notaries

If your employer pays for your notary commission:

• You may be required to notarize for free as part of your job
• Your employer may set fee policies
• Check with your employer about their requirements

On the Exam

• $10 maximum: Standard fee cap for all acts
• Travel fees: Federal mileage rate by agreement
• RON fees: Reasonable fee by agreement
• Disclosure: Fees must be stated before service
• Journal entry: Record fee charged in journal
