About the FE Mechanical Exam
The FE Mechanical exam is one of seven NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering discipline exams and is the first national licensure step toward becoming a Professional Engineer (PE). It is a 110-question computer-based exam covering 15 mechanical engineering knowledge areas including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanical design, and controls. Most candidates take it during their senior year of an EAC/ABET-accredited engineering program or shortly after graduation.
