As of March 8, 2026, official ASTB-E sources continue to describe the exam as an adaptive battery delivered in APEX. That matters because the official source material does not publish a single fixed question count for every administration.

The official FAQ states the total testing window ranges from about 2 hours to 3 hours 15 minutes. The same FAQ states there is no cost to take the ASTB-E.

Because the test is adaptive, your goal is not to memorize a fixed item order. Your goal is to raise the underlying math, reading, mechanical, aviation, and spatial skills that the battery is designed to sample.
